1.January - 1.August (2014 - 2020)
The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updates the absolute number of deaths on a per state basis with an approximate delay of two weeks.
The following charts show weekly data since January 1st from 2014 - 2020 in proportion to the population of each state. (@ Google)
The height of each diagram represents 1 promille of the respective population.
For 2020 the number of deaths by/with Covid-19 as collected by CDC are included.
It is important to recall that the available data do not allow a clear identification of Covid-19 as the cause of death.
So far, the contextualisation of absolute deaths over past years in relation to the identified populations seems to be the only verifiable means to assess the relevance of the far-reaching measures taken by governments.
